| 'Cycle to Cambodia' March 3-5, 2011 |
|
On Thursday the 3rd of March a team of seven Zeal young people and leaders boarded four exercyles on Cuba Mall in Wellington. The goal was to ride the bikes 2,500km, a full circumference of the nation of Cambodia. 'Why?' you may ask...? Because in October of this year the team will be travelling to Cambodia where they will spend ten days learning about aid and how we can make a difference by changing our attitudes towards poverty and our role as first-world westerners.
The journey took the team three days. Along the way they were happy to have the support of Wellington City Councillor Justin Lester and Rimutaka MP Chris Hipkins, both of whom helped make a significant dent into the enormous target. Finally, after over 35 hours of cycling the team pedalled their final hour on March 5th at 1pm while a huge crowd of passers-by cheered them on. The fundraiser pulled-together over $3,000 towards their target. If you are keen to support them financially in their goal please visit www.fundraiseonline.co.nz/cycletocambodia |
