Methodology

Programme: Weekend events

Target market: Young people

Reason why: To develop young people in performance, lighting, technical and event  management and provide a consistent event for young people in the area every weekend of the school term. Funded by: A $5 door charge and key funders.

Provided by: Zeal

How: Bands are scheduled to perform during the evening. These vary from high  school bands to known acts that are either visiting the region or have been specifically invited, depending on available budget. Young people are involved in the events through the technical and lighting workshops and Zeal interns program.

 

Programme: Music tuition

Target market: Young musicians

Reason why: To assist local bands in reaching their full potential by offering them a  rehearsal space and tuition.

Funded by: Tuition fees and key funders.

Provided by: Zeal

How: A music tutor is scheduled to provide specific instrument training for each band for an hour.  Tutoring or practice sessions can also be scheduled.

Programme: Recording / filming

Target market: Young bands and young people interested in technical training.

Reason why: To enable students who want to learn about digital sound, graphic design or  video engineering to develop their skills. Additionally, to teach bands how to record and make a music video. Funded by: Lesson charges of $5 per ス hour (10 per class) and key funders.

How: A tutor will provide classes based upon industry based standards where  applicable.

 

Programme: After-school workshops

Target market: Young people who regularly hangout at Zeal

Reason why: To help young people grow in a form of mastery. Workshops include barista training, photography, graffiti art, and sound and lighting.

Funded by: Key funding bodies.

Provided by: Zeal

How: A tutor will provide classes based upon industry based standards where applicable.

 

Programme: Dance classes

Target market: Young people interested in dance

Reason why: To develop the local dance scene and encourage young entrepreneurs to start a dance school at Zeal.

Funded by: Workshop fees

Provided by: Zeal

How: A tutor will provide classes based upon industry based standards where applicable.

 

Programme: Zeal Leadership course

Target market: High school students

Reason why: To develop the leadership knowledge and experience of young people through a variety of opportunities and programmes.

Funded by: Course fees and subsidised further through key funders.

Provided by: Zeal

How: Tutors will provide class-based learning, along with business mentors from the area.

 

Programme: Cognitive theory programmes

Target market: Regular Zeal youth with high needs

Reason why: Many of the young people that access Zeal services have experienced hardship and struggles that need specific attention.

Funded by: Key funders

Provided by: Zeal

How: Often the Regional Manager, as the most experienced youth worker, will run this course.

 

Programme: After-school hangout

Target market: High school students

Reason why: Zeal holds that youth should have ownership over the youth facility in their area. After-school hangout enables greater youth participation and fosters integration into other Zeal programmes.

Funded by: Key funders

Provided by: Zeal

How: Youth workers are available during the hours of 3-6pm and aim to build strong ongoing relationships with young people through this time.
